Last week marked an exciting milestone in the career of BTS singer V as he officially launched the first full chapter of his journey as a solo artist. With much anticipation, the star dropped a pair of tunes late in the week: “Love Me Again” and “Rainy Days.” Released just hours apart from each other, both tracks wasted no time in making their presence felt on Spotify’s global chart. While they are undeniably off to strong starts, V’s bandmate Jung Kook remains unchallenged at the top of the Spotify tally.
V’s “Love Me Again” made a notable debut, starting at No. 1 on Spotify’s highly competitive ranking of the most-streamed songs worldwide. Within its first day on the list, V’s new single accumulated over 3.7 million streams, followed by an additional 3.4 million plays on August 12. The track managed to hold in the No. 10 space two days in a row.
While “Rainy Days” didn’t quite match the success of its counterpart, it still held its own and performed very well upon its arrival. Debuting at No. 12 on the global Spotify chart, the second track from V arrived with over 3.5 million streams. The following day, it slipped to No. 16, amassing another 3 million streams.
In the initial days of their availability, it is evident that V’s two new solo singles are poised for success, as they continue to accrue millions of daily streams globally. This promising start suggests they might soon make their presence felt on charts worldwide, offering V ample reason to be excited about this launch.
While V’s music is doing very well, his bandmate Jung Kook is currently outshining the competition—all of it.
Maintaining a hold at the top spot of Spotify’s global ranking is Jung Kook and Latto’s collaboration, “Seven.” The tune has consistently dominated the list of the most-played tracks on the streaming platform. Only one artist has managed to unseat the duo from their reign in weeks, as clearly the single has real staying power.
Despite its longevity, “Seven” continues to shine spectacularly. On August 12, Jung Kook’s former Hot 100 leader garnered a staggering 8.3 million global streams, outpacing the closest competition by nearly three million listens. This impressive margin is particularly remarkable given the song’s consistent streaming success over the past several weeks.
Witnessing two members of the same group performing this well on Spotify’s global chart simultaneously is a rarity. V and Jung Kook’s presence within the top 10 with one other is indeed special, and it highlights the fact that they are both stars in their own right. The fact that tunes from both musicians are doing well at the same time likely suggests that they share some fans, but the differences in that performance also points to differences in their followings and the listening habits of those fans.
Amidst friendly competition for chart supremacy and attention, the two singers are thriving, showcasing their power in the global music industry as they forge a new path ahead outside of BTS, which made them both stars.
