Fifty Fifty Joins BTS As The Only K-Pop Acts To Reach One Billboard Chart

News Room

For months, the girl group Fifty Fifty has been steadily climbing the Billboard charts, breaking records and establishing themselves as one of the most promising newcomers in the music industry. With their breakout hit single, “Cupid,” continuing to thrill the masses and even reach new audiences, Fifty Fifty has now reached a new ranking, one which places their name in Billboard history.

“Cupid,” the infectious pop anthem that has taken the airwaves by storm, debuts on this week’s edition of the Adult Contemporary chart—a weekly compilation of tracks that resonate most with what are known as adult contemporary—mostly more mature pop fans, essentially—radio listeners across the United States. This frame, “Cupid” opens at No. 27 on the 30-spot tally.

The South Korean sensation Fifty Fifty’s entrance onto the Adult Contemporary radio chart signifies a significant accomplishment, as they join the extremely exclusive group of musical acts hailing from their home country that have managed to place on the tally. Simply by appearing on the list, Fifty Fifty follows in the footsteps of the trailblazing BTS, who achieved this historic milestone a few years before.

So far, Fifty Fifty and BTS are the only South Korean musical figures to land on the Adult Contemporary chart. The newer of the two is also the first K-pop girl group to secure a spot on the list.

BTS paved the way for South Korean artists on the Adult Contemporary chart when they shattered barriers in 2020. Their global phenomenon “Dynamite” blazed its way to No. 16 on the radio ranking that year, remaining on the chart for several months. The following year, BTS came close to replicating that success with “Butter,” which ascended to No. 25 on the chart.

“Cupid” has proved to be more than just a fleeting sensation for Fifty Fifty. The song’s resounding success has helped it remain on the Hot 100 for an impressive 21 weeks. Among tunes by K-pop acts, “Cupid” now holds the distinction of being the third-longest-running track on the history of the Hot 100.

It seems like the song is still going strong, and in some ways, just getting started. A fresh rendition of “Cupid” has recently been unveiled, featuring the talents of pop singer Sabrina Carpenter. This strategic collaboration is expected to breathe new life into the track, extending its time in the limelight and perhaps helping it perform even better at radio.
