BTS singer V is getting ready to unveil his debut solo collection to the world, and as anticipation builds for the release of his EP, titled Layover, the star has treated his fans to a taste of what’s to come by sharing some of his tunes. Among these tracks, one has propelled the musician to a significant achievement on the U.S. charts and shown that there is real interest in his solo work as well as the music he makes with BTS.
V’s latest single, “Love Me Again,” makes its entrance on this week’s Hot 100 at a modest No. 96. The song managed to break through onto the ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S., immediately doubling the BTS singer’s count of solo placements on the competitive chart.
Before the arrival of “Love Me Again,” V had only managed to grace the Hot 100 as a solo artist once before. In late 2022, he kicked off his solo journey with a holiday-themed track titled “Christmas Tree.” This song debuted and peaked at No. 79. It still remains his highest-charting solo hit without the accompaniment of his fellow BTS bandmates. Of course, as a member of the septet, V has made dozens of appearances on the Hot 100.
The release of “Love Me Again” occurred just hours before the unveiling of a second song, “Rainy Days.” However, the latter track didn’t fare as well as its forerunner, which is understandable given the shorter period it had in which to accumulate streams and sales. “Rainy Days” didn’t secure a spot on the Hot 100, although it came close. The song did reach the Bubbling Under Hot 100, indicating it narrowly missed the main tally by only a few spaces.
Both “Love Me Again” and “Rainy Days” benefited significantly from robust sales figures. The two tunes tracks vied for the top of the Digital Song Sales chart, which ranks the best-selling songs in the United States. While both songs managed to achieve solid sales figures of five digits, they didn’t quite ascend to the top spot, as that honor went to newcomer Oliver Anthony and his politically-charged single “Rich Men North of Richmond.” V’s two tracks claimed the second and third positions on the chart, adding two more wins to the BTS star’s list of accomplishments.
With the release of Layover slated for September 8th, V has already started to tease the set with his two new singles. Although no further music is expected to be released from the EP before its drop, V has already revealed that a third single, “Slow Dancing,” will take the spotlight when the project is unveiled in its entirety.
