Nirvana Is Re-Releasing ‘In Utero’ With More Than 50 Previously Unreleased Songs

News Room

Fans of the iconic grunge band Nirvana have something extraordinary to look forward to—a deluxe reissue of their groundbreaking album, In Utero.

The band, which has been broken up for many years now following the death of lead singer and frontman Kurt Cobain, is planning on re-releasing In Utero to celebrate the title’s thirtieth anniversary. The new, extended set will drop on October 27 of this year.

The reissue promises to be a musical treasure trove for super fans, as it will feature an expanded tracklist comprising a staggering 53 previously unreleased tracks, as well as the album’s original songs, of course.

Included in the much longer tracklist are two full concerts from the In Utero chapter of the band’s career. The first concert recordings hail from a 1993 show in Los Angeles. The second immortalizes Nirvana’s final Seattle performance in 1994, which was special for them and remains important, as the band is one of the most famous from that city.

These concert recordings have been painstakingly reconstructed from the original soundboard tapes by the engineer Jack Endino. The forthcoming deluxe reissue also includes six bonus live tracks that were taken from various concert in cities like Rome, Springfield and New York City. The album’s original 12 songs have all received a meticulous remastering treatment from the original analog master stereo tapes, courtesy of producer Bob Weston.

The deluxe reissue will be available in various formats, ensuring that fans can choose the one that suits their preferences—though some may opt to buy all of them. Options include digital downloads, an 8xLP box set, a 5xCD box set, an LP and 10″ edition, and a 2xCD edition, which is a lot of formats for one title.

In Utero would be Nirvana’s last album. Released in September 1993, the title worked its way to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming one of four leaders on the tally from the group. The set produced singles like “Heart-Shaped Box” and “Rape Me” and is considered a great work of art in the grunge field.
