In a thrilling announcement for fans of the si9nger, the legendary Barbra Streisand is getting ready to release not one, but two new albums. Both projects—Evergreens: Celebrating Six Decades on Columbia Records and the Yentl: 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition—are scheduled to drop on the same day: Friday, October 27.
Evergreens: Celebrating Six Decades on Columbia Records stands as a time capsule of sorts, commemorating Streisand’s remarkable more than half-century-long journey as an artist signed to the label. The album is a carefully curated collection of 22 songs, each personally handpicked by the star herself. The trackless isn’t focused on her biggest hits, but rather those tunes that resonate most with Streisand, and which she loves.
A release announcing the two albums points out that super fans will want to know that none of the 22 tunes on Evergreens: Celebrating Six Decades on Columbia Records have been included on any previous Streisand compilations.
Evergreens: Celebrating Six Decades on Columbia Records is preceded by a promotional single that will surely strike a chord with her devoted following. The timeless classic, “Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star is Born),” has been given a refreshening, and it is currently available as an instant gratification track for those who pre-order the album. Streisand’s signature vocals are beautifully complemented by a brand-new arrangement. As an extra treat, the official video for this reimagined smash is coming September 22.
Yentl: 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition celebrates 40 years of the film and the music that made it so successful. The two-disc set comprises the original soundtrack on the first CD, while the second treats fans to 15 previously-unheard tracks, including Streisand’s own demos and alternate versions of the familiar cuts.
What makes these recordings even more endearing is that they were recorded in Streisand’s own living room, using a stereo cassette deck. The woman who wrote, produced, directed, starred in and co-wrote the songs for the movie narrates an introduction to each track.
On October 6, fans will have the pleasure of hearing the first previously unreleased track from the Yentl: 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition soundtrack, the beloved “Papa, Can You Hear Me?” An alternate version of the single that’s been hiding in Streisand’s “vault,” one which was produced by Phil Ramone and arranged by Dave Grusin, will be made available for the first time.
Streisand is releasing these two albums shortly before another major project: her memoir. The singer and actress is set to drop her book My Name is Barbra on November 7, so clearly this fall is all about her.
These two albums mark Streisand’s first musical releases since 2022’s Live at the Bon Soir. The live set was recorded in 1962, but wasn’t made available to the public until more than half a century later. Her last studio album was 2018’s Walls.
