BTS’s V Sells 1.6 Million Copies Of His Debut EP In Less Than One Day

News Room

After weeks of promoting his debut solo EP, V has finally released the project, titled Layover. The BTS singer has a huge fan base of his own, and they have shown up in droves in his home country to snap up a copy of the highly-anticipated set.

Layover has become an instant bestseller in South Korea, where V is based. The EP was released on Friday, September 9, and in the hours since it was first made available to buy, the title has sold at least 1.67 million copies in the country alone.

That number is according to Hanteo, one of the two most important music charts in South Korea. Hanteo is different from other musical rankings, as it tracks sales in real-time, so the company is able to provide data about what people in the nation are buying on any given day.

With more than 1.6 million copies sold in less than one full day, V’s Layover is surely headed for a historic first-week sales sum. It could break two million copies purchased in just its first day of availability, and there’s no telling how much higher that number may climb before interest begins to dwindle.

In less than one day, V’s Layover has already outsold the bestselling title of last month, NCT’s Golden Age. In the month of August, that album sold more than 626,000 copies in South Korea. Amazingly, V outpaced that title more than twice over in only a matter of hours.

Layover marks V’s first project as a soloist. As a member of BTS, he has topped charts all around the world with a number of albums, EPs and compilations. The band is currently on something of a hiatus as several members complete their mandatory military service, which is required of all men in the nation before they reach a certain age. As the group splinters for a time, several of the singers are pursuing solo ventures, with V being one of the latest to do so.

So far in 2023 alone, more than 20 different releases have sold at least one million copies in South Korea, with Layover now included in that club. Other high-profile releases from stars like Aespa, Tomorrow X Together, Seventeen, and Stray Kids, among many others, have also reached beyond the million-seller status.
