NewJeans Tie One Of Blackpink’s Most Impressive Billboard Chart Streaks

News Room

In just the past year or so, NewJeans has emerged as a rising star in the K-pop genre, and they have been steadily growing in terms of popularity and commercial success, especially on the Billboard charts in America. The South Korean girl group has now achieved a remarkable milestone, one that aligns them with the most iconic girl group of our time, Blackpink.

NewJeans’ hit single “Super Shy” has now made a home on the Hot 100 chart for an impressive eight weeks. Despite a dip from No. 80 to No. 95 on the latest ranking, this feat is nothing short of extraordinary, especially for a K-pop girl group.

The significance in this tune and its time on the Hot 100 lies in the fact that NewJeans has now tied with Blackpink’s hit track, “Ice Cream,” as the second-longest-running song by a South Korean girl group in the history of the Hot 100. Both songs have achieved the remarkable milestone of eight weeks on this highly competitive chart.

For several years, “Ice Cream” by Blackpink was known as a standout hit among K-pop girl groups—the biggest ever in many respects. The tune peaked at No. 13 on the Hot 100, just shy of breaking into the top 10. It remains Blackpink’s highest-charting and longest-charting song on the Hot 100, a record that was significantly boosted by a collaboration with pop sensation Selena Gomez.

At present, the title of the longest-charting song in Hot 100 history by a South Korean girl group belongs to Fifty Fifty’s “Cupid.” This enduring track has maintained its presence on the chart for 24 weeks, and it currently resides at No. 48. It might be able to hold on a little while longer.

“Super Shy” doesn’t seem like it’s poised to break free from its tie with Blackpink’s “Ice Cream” anytime soon. Given its current low ranking and consistent decline, it appears that the track may exit the chart sooner rather than later, so the two may be forever on the same level as one another.
