Chloe Flower is spreading holiday cheer like never before. The pianist, composer, and producer who graced the 2019 Grammy Awards stage alongside Cardi B, as well as the 2023 Forbes Power Women’s Summit just last week, announces her upcoming album Chloe Hearts Christmas with a gorgeous, meaningful cover track.
Bringing festive favorites with a pop-meets-classical—or “popsical” as the LA native describes it—twist for her first-ever holiday album, Chloe Hearts Christmas comes via Sony Music Masterworks to honor both the magical musical season as well as the celebrated star’s commitment to diversity and globalizing music.
In a music industry first, Chloe Flower introduced the project with her orchestral take on “Christmas Tree,” originally performed by V of BTS as part of the soundtrack to the 2021 Korean-drama television series Our Beloved Summer. The tender track became a chart hit in countries like South Korea, Japan, Canada and Hungary, and also marked V’s first-ever solo entry on the main Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Flower’s “Christmas Tree” not only sees its original, delicate melodies transformed into a soaring orchestral gem but also underscores her admiration for BTS’ pioneering impact on the global music scene.
“It was really important to me to include a Korean artist on the album,” Flower says in a statement. “BTS have helped pave the way for so many other Korean artists like me and what they’ve been able to accomplish both as a group and individually as solo artists is really amazing.”
V even previously showed love to Chloe by sharing her TikTok cover of his single “Slow Dancing,” off his recently released, chart-topping Layover album.
Described as a “lifelong dream” project for Flower, Chloe Hearts Christmas follows her 2022 EP titled Christmas with Chloe Flower, which set the musical path for this full-length album. The carefully curated set includes carol standards, contemporary holiday hits, cinematic classics and more seasonal songs loved globally. The album features orchestral selections from composers like Tchaikovsky and Leontovych, timeless classics from the likes of Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra, contemporary pop hits from V, Ariana Grande, and Sia, as well as cherished seasonal favorites from Joni Mitchell and Ryuichi Sakamoto, plus selections from films like Anastasia, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Sound of Music and more. Meanwhile, Flower’s mentor Babyface infuses a hip-hop edge by co-producing a new take on “Carol of the Bells.” Simultaneously, Chloe’s longtime collaborator and friend Questlove added percussion to four tracks on the LP.
In a nod to her advocacy for representation in the music industry, Chloe specifically selected tracks that spotlight female artistry and her Asian-American heritage. Featuring songs from Joni Mitchell, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Mariah Carey, Sia, V, Ariana Grande and more, all spotlight Chloe’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
Chloe Hearts Christmas drops on November 1 in hopes of marking an early must-have album for the 2023 holiday season and setting a new standard to redefine the festive music landscape as a cherished addition to holiday playlists for years to come around the world.
