Two Korean dramas—Reborn Rich and Extraordinay Attorney Woo—have been nominated for awards at the 2023 International Emmys. To find out which drama gets an award, fans will have to wait for the awards gala, which takes place on Nov. 20 in New York City.

The SLL-produced drama Reborn Rich, directed by Jung Dae-yoon/Kim Sang-ho and written by Kim Tae-hee/Chang Eun-jae, has been nominated in the TV Movie/Mini-series category. Reborn Rich, starring Song Joong-ki and Lee Sung-min, is a fantasy drama in which a chaebol group employee is reincarnated into the body of the son of the same chaebol family that abused his loyalty. He not only gets a second chance at life, but can avenge wrongs perpetrated by his former chaebol employers. The series was a success with viewership ratings of 26.9% nationwide.

The 2023 International Emmy nomination, announced on Sept. 26, followed the series’ win for Best Miniseries in the International Competition category at the Seoul International Drama Awards 2023. In the Emmys’ TV Movie/Mini-Series category, Reborn Rich is up against Life and Death in the Warehouse (United Kingdom), Infiniti (France) and La Caída (Mexico).

“We are surprised and feel great that the world has recognized the message of our drama,” said director Jung Dae-yoon. “Even though it reflects a thoroughly Korean reality and fantasy. I hope this nomination will lead to the winning and we can share the joy with all the people who have worked so hard on this piece for a long time.”

The other nominee to vie for an award at the 2023 International Emmys is the critically acclaimed series Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which stars Park Eun-bin, Kang Tae-oh, Kang Ki-young and Baek Ji-won. Extraordinary Attorney Woo has been nominated in the Drama Series category.

The story follows the neurodivergent attorney Woo Young-woo after she signs on with a top Korean law firm. Her awkward social behavior initially makes it difficult for her to fit in, but her unique way of looking at cases turns out to be an asset for the law firm. The hit legal drama had 24 million viewers in the first week and reached a total of 77 million viewers by its seventh week. Buoyed by favorable reviews, Extraordinary Attorney Woo quickly rose to the top of the Netflix charts and mostly stayed there—even after it finished airing in Korea.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo is up against The Devil’s Hour (United Kingdom), The Empress (Germany) and Iosi, El Espía Arrepentido (Argentina). The Netflix drama was produced by AStory, KT Studio and Nangman Crew.

Which drama will win? Fortunately, they are up for different categories, so fans of both k-dramas can hope for a double win.
