Michael Jackson Kicks Off Halloween Season As ‘Thriller’ Returns To The Billboard Charts

News Room

Michael Jackson makes a comeback on the Billboard charts this week, but it’s not due to any new releases from his estate. Instead, the late superstar’s return is attributed to the enduring popularity of one of his most iconic singles, which has become an annual sensation for the singer.

Jackson’s timeless single “Thriller” reclaims its spot on a couple of Billboard charts this week, and this resurgence may just be the beginning of its seasonal success. Each October, “Thriller” resurfaces on various rankings, as it is a beloved favorite among millions of Americans to set the Halloween mood. The track experiences a surge in sales on iTunes and Amazon
AMZN
, and many radio stations across the country put it back into regular rotation.

In the current week, “Thriller” ascends on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart, which compiles the bestselling R&B-only tracks in America. The song now sits at No. 11 on this week’s ranking, up from its previous position at No. 15.

The same classic track also makes its triumphant return to the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart. “Thriller” re-enters at No. 21 on the 25-position list, which features the bestselling cuts in the U.S. classified as rap, hip-hop or R&B by Billboard.

“Thriller” has previously claimed the top spot on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and R&B Digital Song Sales charts. As Halloween approaches, there’s a strong likelihood that it will once again approach the summit on both of these charts, if not actually reclaim the No. 1 position. The song’s impressive future sales may enable it to reappear on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart in the near future and, perhaps, even make a return to the Hot 100, although the latter is a more challenging achievement.
