documentary, Beckham. But the retired footballer’s sweet dance to “Islands in the Stream” with his wife Victoria is bringing back an iconic ‘80s hit.

David Beckham’s Netflix documentary, Beckham, premiered last week and scored a No. 1 debut on the streaming platform. The four-part series highlighted the soccer player’s successful football career and his relationship with Victoria Beckham, the singer-turned-fashion-designer who’s best known as Posh Spice from the English girl group, Spice Girls.

In the final episode of the series, the couple danced to the 1983 Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton duet, “Islands in the Stream.” David switched on the song while the couple reflected on their lives in a voice-over.

‘Going through every part of my life, it has given me clarity on many things, and one of the things, which is the most important thing to me, is what we’ve got,” Beckham says before the dancing clip. “Why I feel happy now is I feel really content now, and I get that sense you feel really content now,” Victoria also adds.

Victoria is seen dancing alongside her husband; she puts her arm around his shoulder as they happily step in unison to the tune. Some viewers who were taken by the scene went to TikTok to dance to the song with their loved ones or by themselves.

One user even noted that they hadn’t watched the documentary yet, but they appreciated that “Islands in the Stream” is getting the attention it deserves.

“Didn’t watch #beckham but you can’t escape it. Glad the song is finally getting the recognition,” TikTok user @Edibweeknd wrote.

The single was written by Bees Gees (Barry Gibb, Karl Richardson and Albhy Galuten) and was recorded by country music artists Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. “Islands in the Stream” was released in August 1983 as the first single from Rogers’ album, Eyes That See in the Dark.

According to Billboard, “Islands in the Stream” landed No. 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot Country Songs chart. The track earned a Grammy nomination for best pop performance by a duo or group, and it was named single of the year at the 19th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, among its many accolades.

Beckham also opened up about struggles the couple faced, including allegations that Beckham cheated after he was transferred to Spain to play for Real Madrid in 2004.

“It was the hardest period for us because it felt like the world was against us. And here’s the thing: We were against each other, if I’m being completely honest,” Victoria said in the limited series.

David also commented on the rough patch of the alleged cheating scandal. “Victoria is everything to me. To see her hurt was incredibly difficult, but we’re fighters and at that time we needed to fight for each other. We needed to fight for our family. And what we had was worth fighting for,” he said.

The couple share four children together: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.

Beckham is available to stream on Netflix.
