Halloween is a big deal. Based on a survey of more than 8,000 consumers, the National Retail Federation estimates that Americans will spend more than $12 billion on costumes, entertainment, and candy this year, up from last year’s record of $10 billion.

The survey also shows that a record number of people (73%) are expected to participate in Halloween-related activities this year, up from 69% in 2022, exceeding pre-pandemic levels.

Netflix knows what a popular holiday this is, and the streamer has you covered if you’re searching for a scary series to binge. One worth spotlighting is Mike Flanagan’s new limited series, The Fall of the House of Usher.

Fans and critics alike already love the the eight-episode horror series, which is based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. The story centers on ruthless siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher, who have built Fortunato Pharmaceuticals into an empire of wealth, privilege and power. But past secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying at the hands of a mysterious woman from their youth.

All episodes dropped on October 12, and it is a phenomenal nail-biting whodunit! It has been described as a cross of Succession meets big pharma wherein opioid greed meets horror. Flanagan (Doctor Sleep) has a massive and loyal following, and his fans love his unique style with modern horror dramas. Critics have fallen in love with the series, which currently has a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score.

If you’re a fan of Flanagan’s ‘Flannaverse,’ you can also binge his other hit horror series on Netflix, including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Midnight Club.

Lupin: Part 3 – All seven episodes of the French Omar Sy-helmed thriller were released on October 5. Now in hiding, Assane wants to reunite with his wife and son. He returns to Paris to make them a crazy proposal: leave France and start a new life elsewhere. But the ghosts of the past are never far away, and an unexpected return will turn his plans upside down. This chart-topping fan-favorite is inspired by Maurice Leblanc’s Arsène Lupin. In the series, gentleman thief Assane Diop has dedicated his life to avenging his father for an injustice inflicted by a wealthy family. As the saying goes, if you seek revenge, dig two graves.

The Fall of the House of Usher – As previously mentioned, this eight-episode fan favorite was just released on October 12. This series will surely make stars of its outstanding cast, including Bruce Greenwood, Carla Gugino, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly, Mark Hamill, Michael Trucco and T’Nia Miller. Flanagan and Michael Fimognari each directed four episodes.

Bodies – This eight-episode British police procedural will premiere on October 19, and the story takes place over four timelines as four detectives aim to investigate what happened to the same body, which is found on Longharvest Lane in London’s East End in 1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053. The viewer gets an inside view into the mystery as one detective from each period investigates to solve the mystery. They must somehow find a way to collaborate to uncover a conspiracy spanning over 150 years. The series is based on the mind-bending graphic novel by Si Spencer.

Creature (Yaratılan) – This eight-episode drama from Turkey will premiere on October 20. The story takes place in the final era of the Ottoman Empire and, as described by Netflix, dwells on one of humanity’s most fundamental questions about death and the afterlife. Ziya is an adventurous, rebellious, thriving and bright young medical student with the insatiable desire to become an excellent physician and find a cure for infectious diseases. Ziya’s path crosses with Ihsan, a fellow medical doctor, balancing the fine line between genius and insanity. He is the only person who truly understands Ziya’s ambitions. However, these two estranged, wounded souls will pay the price for the forbidden experiment they were brave enough to conduct. The ancient encryption they have tried to decrypt could let all hell break loose.

Ferry: The Series All eight episodes of this series from Benelux (I had to look this up. Benelux is an economic union comprised of three neighboring monarchies: Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg) will drop on Netflix on November 3. This thriller centers around Ferry Bouman, who tries to get a foothold in the Brabant underworld. With John, brother-in-law Lars, Remco and Dennis, he fights the immovable drug lord Arie Tack and a notorious motorcycle club to win his place at the top. When his lover Danielle learns the dark side of Ferry and his business, it becomes clear what price he will have to pay to become the greatest.
