U2 continues to leave its mark on Billboard’s music charts with their latest release, and this time, the iconic Irish rock band has broken a significant record. With their latest single, “Atomic City,” soaring up Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart, U2 has claimed the title for the most top 10 hits in the history of the radio ranking, breaking out of a tie with Dave Matthews Band.
“Atomic City” has rapidly climbed the ranks, jumping from No. 17, where it debuted last frame, to No. 4 in just its second frame on the list. This latest hit marks U2’s twenty-seventh appearance inside the top 10 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart.
With one more hit to their credit, U2 is no longer on the same level as the Dave Matthews Band. That group has thus far collected 26 top 10 smashes on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart, according to Billboard. Coldplay comes in third among all acts, with 24 top 10s.
According to the music magazine and chart publisher, the last time U2 appeared inside the top 10 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart was with “Get Out of Your Own Way.” That tune peaked at No. 3 back in February 2018.
“Atomic City” marked U2’s thirty-second overall appearance on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart when it debuted last week. With another placement, the Grammy winners came closer to matching the all-time record for the most hits on the tally, which is held by Dave Matthews Band.
For the moment, “Atomic City” is a one-off single, unattached to any full-length. The band released the tune to help drum up excitement for their new Las Vegas residency at the just-opened venue The Sphere. U2 just added 11 new shows to the highly-successful run.
