Cher is getting ready to release her first new album in half a decade, and the debut taste of the title is here. Now, the first single from the project has not only reached the Billboard charts but become a very important win for the superstar.
The singer and actress’s new single, “DJ Play A Christmas Song,” arrives on this week’s edition of the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart. As its name suggests, the ranking lists the 25 bestselling tracks in America that Billboard labels as either dance or electronic in genre.
Cher’s newest release opens at No. 3 on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart. The Grammy winner earns the top debut of this frame, beating seven other new entrants on the tally.
“DJ Play A Christmas Song” is Cher’s third track to make it to the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart. That’s a bit surprising, given her success in the dance world, but many of her biggest smashes in that arena predate the introduction of the online-only ranking.
Perhaps most impressive is the fact that “DJ Play A Christmas Song” marks Cher’s highest-reaching hit on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart. Before this week, she had topped out at No. 4 with “Believe.” That track–her last to rule the Hot 100–reached that lofty position just a few years ago, even though it’s now a quarter-century old.
Cher’s only other hit on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart is “Woman’s World.” That electro win peaked at No. 7. So far, all of Cher’s placements on the tally have broken into the top 10 for at least one week.
“DJ Play A Christmas Song” serves as the first single from Cher’s upcoming album, Christmas. The project marks the singer’s debut holiday record, but one listen to the lead single makes it clear that she’s not going the traditional route with this era.
