Three BTS Members Are Vying For Best Pop Vocal Album Grammy Nominations

News Room

The nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards won’t be announced until November 10, but artists had to submit their songs and albums weeks ago for consideration. All seven members of BTS put forth solo music, as they’re working on their own careers as the group is on a hiatus. Now, three of the stars that make up the band are competing against one another—and plenty of other artists—for a spot in one of the toughest verticals to win.

Three of the seven members of BTS submitted collections for Best Pop Vocal Album. The category has previously bestowed prizes upon some of the biggest names in the genre, including Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift and Adele. Now, the BTS singers all count as major players in the music industry, and while it’s tough to say if any of them have a great shot at earning some love, they certainly shouldn’t be counted out.

RM’s Indigo is the oldest of the three submitted titles, as the set was initially released in December 2022. It then reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200 weeks later, following its release on a physical format.

Jimin’s Face EP is the second-oldest of the bunch that have been submitted for Best Pop Vocal Album. The set has an advantage, as it produced a major smash single with “Like Crazy.” The tune debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, helping Jimin make history on the chart. While commercial success isn’t supposed to factor into the decision voters make, it certainly does help the release stand out.

The most recent studio effort from a BTS member that has been submitted for Best Pop Vocal Album is V’s Layover. The short set peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and though it didn’t spin off a huge single like Jimin’s Face, it was still critically well received. Layover was released just days before the cutoff date for the 2024 Grammys, so the fact that it’s still fresh in people’s minds may help the singer’s chances.

The BTS members may all be stars in their own right, but Best Pop Vocal Album is always a very busy category. This year, fellow chart-toppers like Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Kelly Clarkson and Ed Sheeran are all in the running, to name just a few likely nominees. Whether RM, Jimin or V sneak into this field—or any others, as they all submitted for consideration in more than one category—will be revealed in just a few days.
