Taylor Swift is the most popular musician in the world right now, so it makes sense that she would also claim the No. 1 song on the planet. The superstar’s current single “Cruel Summer” lifts from the runner-up rung to a new high of No. 1 on this week’s edition of the Billboard Global 200. The weekly chart ranks the most consumed songs all around the world, using a methodology that looks at both sales and streams.
“Cruel Summer” marks Swift’s third No. 1 hit on the Billboard Global 200. With another winner to her credit, she is now tied for the most leaders of all time among women. Before Swift, Olivia Rodrigo was the only woman to claim three leaders on the worldwide tally.
Looking at all artists, Swift is now tied for the third most No. 1 hits ever on the Billboard Global 200. In addition to being on the same level as Rodrigo, she is also tied with rapper Drake who has similarly accrued a trio of champions.
All artists come in behind K-pop superstars BTS, who dominate this ranking like no other. The seven-member vocal band has charted, appropriately, seven No. 1s on the Billboard Global 200. In between BTS and Swift, Rodrigo and Drake, is Latin musician Bad Bunny, who has snagged four No. 1s.
Swift claimed her leader on the Billboard Global 200 back in 2021. That year, her single “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” finally hit No. 1 years after it was initially released. The track regained popularity after she re-recorded it and extended its length, making its release an event. In 2022, she doubled her total count of champions as “Anti-Hero” opened in first place.
Both “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” and “Anti-Hero” were instant No. 1s, as they debuted atop the tally, while “Cruel Summer” had to work its way to the summit. 2023now marks the third year in a row that Swift has charted a No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200.
