Katy Perry is back on the Billboard charts this week with a new release, but it’s not the long-awaited KP6 that fans have been waiting for. Instead, the pop superstar returns with a special product that appealed only to her super fans…but there are plenty of them, according to how well the title performed.
Perry’s new box set, Katy CATalog, opens at No. 19 on this week’s Top Album Sales chart. The weekly ranking, published by Billboard, plots the albums and EPs that actually sell the most copies in the U.S. each week. It differs from the more competitive Billboard 200, which takes into account streams as well.
Katy CATalog scores the fourth-highest debut of the week on the Top Album Sales chart. It comes in behind new efforts from the likes of Blink-182, the Rolling Stones and Cher. In its first frame of availability, the package sold just under 5,000 copies, according to data shared by Luminate.
While Katy CATalog may arrive inside the top 20 on the Top Album Sales chart, it didn’t perform well enough to find its way to the Billboard 200. According to Luminate, the No. 200 album in America this week, John Pardi’s California Sunrise, moved 7,600 equivalent units, between sales and streaming units. Since Katy CATalog was seemingly only available to purchase, it didn’t move enough copies to reach the all-encompassing chart.,
Katy CATalog marks Perry’s seventh appearance on the Top Album Sales chart. She last appeared on the tally with a new title in 2020. That year, her latest set of original material, Smile, opened and peaked at No. 3. The only release from the star that’s ranked lower is her MTV Unplugged EP, which only rose as high as No. 168. The Top Album Sales chart now only includes 100 spots.
Perry released the Katy CATalog box set to commemorate several anniversaries. The offering includes three of her albums, One of the Boys, Teenage Dream and Prism in collector’s formats. One of the Boys turns 15 in 2023, Prism hits 10 years, and, according to her website, Teenage Dream is now officially a teenager. The project, which sold for $100, is sold out on her website.
At the same time that Katy CATalog debuts, Teenage Dream returns to the Top Album Sales chart. It reappears at No. 36 after previously topping the ranking.
