Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella took the stage at OpenAI’s first-ever developer conference and had nothing but praise for the company and its CEO Sam Altman.

During OpenAI’s DevDay, Altman invited Nadella on stage to discuss OpenAI’s ongoing partnership with Microsoft.

The Microsoft CEO showered Altman and his work with approval.

“First? We love you guys” Nadella told Altman. “It’s been fantastic for us.”

“You guys have built something magical,” Nadella added about OpenAI’s large language models.

Nadella’s comments nearly a year after Microsoft extended its partnership with OpenAI through an additional $10 billion investment in the company.

Through the partnership, Microsoft has been able to build its own AI products using OpenAI’s language models. In March, Microsoft announced its suite of generative AI tools known as Copilot, which can summarize meetings, create presentations, and generate first drafts of writing, and in May, the tech giant launched its AI-powered Bing browser to all users.

As part of the relationship, OpenAs uses of Microsoft Azure cloud servers to run its AI.

“Ultimately, it’s about being able to get the benefits of AI broadly disseminated to everyone,” Nadella said about the partnership, adding that both companies want to build safe AI for a broad audience.

Altman, too, had nice words.

“We have the best partnership in tech,” he said. “I’m excited for us to build AGI together.”

The lovefest comes after a September report that Microsoft may be trying to break its reliance on OpenAI by creating in-house models that are cheaper and smaller than OpenAI’s models.

Microsoft and OpenAI didn’t immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment before publication.
