Miley Cyrus, Morgan Wallen And Doja Cat For Record Of The Year

News Room

For some, Record of the Year is the top prize at the Grammys. The trophy goes to the single track that voters feel is, well, the record of the year, with exactly how each person makes that determination up to their own interpretation. Sometimes it’s the biggest hit of the year, while in other instances, the most beautiful, or perhaps one that few people heard but which the music industry just adores.

Here are my predictions for the Record of the Year nominees at the 2024 Grammys.

Predictions

Boygenius – “Not Strong Enough”

Doja Cat – “Paint The Town Red”

Luke Combs – “Fast Car”

Miley Cyrus – “Flowers”

Morgan Wallen – “Last Night”

Olivia Rodrigo – “Vampire”

SZA – “Kill Bill”

Taylor Swift – “Anti-Hero”

Some of these songs seem like a lock for a Record of the Year nomination—but if the past few years at the Grammys have taught predictors and the music industry in general anything, it’s that nothing is certain.

Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” is not just all but certain to be nominated, it could very well win the honor. Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” and SZA’s “Kill Bill” are also sure to rack up several nods, including one for Record of the Year.

Past nominees like Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo are also potentially on their way to more nods, perhaps joined by alt-rock supergroup Boygenius.

Country might command a powerful presence in the Record of the Year field, which isn’t seen very often. Luke Combs’ cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” was one of the biggest hits of 2023, and even though voters don’t always reward not-new material, this might be an exception. Whether or not the business has forgiven Morgan Wallen for his past racist transgressions to nominate him in one of the top categories is tough to call, but “Last Night” may be the biggest smash of the year, so its inclusion makes sense.

Also Possible

Here are eight additional possibilities that also stand a good shot at a Record of the Year nomination.

Billie Eilish – “What Was I Made For?”

Dua Lipa – “Dance the Night”

Foo Fighters – “Rescued”

Lil Durk & J. Cole – “All My Life”

Metro Boomin, The Weeknd & 21 Savage – “Creepin”

PinkPantheress & Ice Spice – “Boy’s a Liar, Pt. 2”

Rihanna – “Lift Me Up”

Zach Bryan & Kacey Musgraves – “I Remember Everything”

The nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards will be announced on Friday, November 11.
