American Public Education Inc. shares rose after the for-profit university administrator forecast fourth-quarter revenue in line with or higher than third-quarter levels on a slight increase in enrollment.
Shares rose 14% to $4.91 premarket, but are still down by more than 60% for the year to date.
After the bell Tuesday, the Charleston, West Va., operator of Rasmussen University and other for-profit institutions forecast fourth-quarter revenue in a range between $149.3 million and $151.3 million.
Third-quarter revenue rose 0.9% to $150.8 million.
American Public Education posted a third-quarter loss of $3.3 million, or 27 cents a share, narrowed slightly from a loss of $3.8 million a year earlier.
The company forecast fourth-quarter growth in net course registrations in a range between 2% and 4% for a total between 88,900 and 90,700 for the quarter.
