Taylor Swift is in charge of the Hot 100 this week. That’s not usual, especially this year, but this frame, she manages the near-impossible as she controls the most important songs chart in America.
“Cruel Summer” returns to No. 1 on the Hot 100 yet again. The tune lifts from No. 6 to the top spot, regaining control over Billboard’s ranking of the most-consumed tracks in the U.S. The poppy cut from her album Lover has now led the charge for three nonconsecutive turns.
As “Cruel Summer” gains again, Swift grabs the No. 1 spot on the Hot 100 from herself. Last week, the singer owned the list with her latest chart-topper, “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault].” That tune debuted in first place after the release of her new album 1989 (Taylor’s Version). “Is It Over Now?” was one of the brand new cuts featured on the re-recording, and fans sent it right to the summit.
Amazingly, when “Is It Over Now?” arrived atop the Hot 100, it replaced Swift’s “Cruel Summer.” That means that the Grammy winner and current nominee has owned the highest space on the chart for four weeks in a row, replacing herself on the throne twice during that time.
“Cruel Summer” performs so well this time around thanks largely to its success at radio. The summer cut is a non-mover at No. 1 on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart, where it has run the show for a month now. It also did well on streaming platforms, and it ranks at No. 8 on the Streaming Songs chart, returning to the top 10, according to Billboard.
As “Cruel Summer” ranks at No. 1 again, “Is It Over Now?” doesn’t fall very far from the highest rung on the tally. This turn, in its second week on the list, it dips to No. 3. the other six songs that Swift placed inside the top 10 on last week’s Hot 100 are all gone from the region.
