Michael Jackson Memorabilia Continues To Fetch Incredible Prices At Auction

News Room

Michael Jackson has been gone for more than a decade, but the public’s love for the singer has largely remained the same. Interest in the star, his work, as well as anything he owned during his lifetime are still at an all-time high—which was clearly evidenced at a recent auction where a piece of Jackson memorabilia fetched an eyebrow-raising price tag.

In a remarkable display of devotion to the King of Pop, collectors and fans of Jackson recently took part in an auction in London where a piece of music history fetched an impressive sum. The black-and-white leather jacket that the pop and R&B superstar wore in a 1984 Pepsi commercial became the center of attention, standing out as one of the most exciting items on the block.

The jacket ultimately sold for $306,000, according to the New York Post. That’s a lot of money for one article of clothing, and Jackson is one of likely only a few names who could muster that high a price for a single piece.

While $300,000-plus is out of most people’s price range for a jacket, the cost was actually lower than was initially expected. A much larger sum—up to $488,000—had originally been quoted. While nobody bid anywhere near that number, it was still a standout success from the event.

The jacket’s sale was part of an auction organized by auctioneers Propstore, which also featured a number of items associated with other music legends. The event included memorabilia from fellow superstars like AC/DC, Amy Winehouse, David Bowie, Elvis Presley and George Michael, among others. Michael had a jacket up for grabs as well, and it sold for more than $100,000.

Jackson is currently back on the Billboard charts, if only for a few more hours. The Grammy winner’s seasonal smash “Thriller” is present on tallies like the Hot 100 and Digital Song Sales charts as millions of Americans rushed to stream and buy the cut around the Halloween holiday. The track will likely disappear very soon, as the public has moved on…but it will surely resurrect again next year.
