Jung Kook Breaks The Record For The Most Hot 100 Top 10 Hits By Korean Soloists

News Room

Jung Kook is back inside the highest tier on the Hot 100 this week with his brand new single, “Standing Next To You.” As the tune arrives inside the uppermost region on the competitive tally, the singer makes history and passes one of the most important artists from his home country.

“Standing Next To You” debuts at No. 5 on this week’s Hot 100. As it arrives within the top space on the chart, Jung Kook collects his third top 10 on the ranking. With a third win to his credit, the BTS star breaks his tie with Psy. Before this week, the two artists were tied for the most Hot 100 top 10s among soloists from South Korea, with two apiece.

Jung Kook collected all three of his top 10 smashes from his debut solo album, Golden. The full-length’s lead single, “Seven,” with rapper Latto debuted at No. 1 earlier this year. Just a few weeks ago, Jung Kook returned with its follow-up, “3D.” That track, which featured Jack Harlow, also started at No. 5 on the Hot 100.

Psy made history as the first South Korean artist of any kind to hit the top 10 on the Hot 100 with his breakout single, “Gangnam Style.” That tune rose to No. 2 on the tally back in 2012, narrowly missing out on becoming a chart champion. The following year, he returned to the region with “Gentleman,” which stalled at No. 5.

Among all South Korean musical acts, BTS leads for the most Hot 100 top 10 placements. The septet, which turned Jung Kook into a superstar, has thus far accrued 10 top 10 hits. That sum includes half a dozen No. 1 wins. Jung Kook ranks behind only the troupe when looking at the most top 10 smashes among South Korean artists.

“Standing Next To You” launches inside the top five on the Hot 100 primarily thanks to very strong sales. The latest smash from his debut album, Golden, sold 99,000 copies between both physical and digital mediums, according to Billboard.

At the same time, “Standing Next To You” was a major hit on streaming platforms, which also factor into where a title arrives on the Hot 100. Jung Kook’s newest success story opens with 10.6 million streams in just its first tracking frame. The tune also reached an audience of 400,000 on radio, but those spins didn’t play nearly as important a role in making the song a smash.
