Paramount+’s military drama SEAL Team is coming to a close. The David Boreanaz-led series, which follows a fictional elite unit of Navy SEALs, was canceled by Paramount+ and will be ending with Season 7 in 2024.
SEAL Team was moved to Paramount+ in fall 2021 after airing five seasons on CBS. Season 5 of SEAL Team is currently airing on CBS on Thursday nights as part of CBS’ revised fall schedule after the actors’ and writers’ strikes delayed scripted programming.
“It has been a privilege to tell stories over seven seasons that honor the bravery and heroism of all who serve our country,” executive producers Spencer Hudnut and Christopher Chulack penned in a joint statement. “We are deeply grateful to our amazing group of actors, writers, directors and talented crew, especially the hundreds of veterans who have worked on this show.”
The EPs continued: “While we wish we could continue to shine a spotlight on areas where we can do better for our service members even after Season 7 comes to an end, it is our hope that the collective SEAL Team community will stay in the fight when it comes to protecting our protectors.”
SEAL Team frontrunner David Boreanaz, who plays Jason Hayes, the Master Chief Special Warfare Operator of the Bravo Team, said that he’s been “fortunate and blessed to be a part of an outstanding cast and crew.” Neil Brown Jr., AJ Buckley, Toni Trucks and Raffi Barsoumian also star in the military series.
“Every day spent was a note of thanks to our men and women in the military and Special OPS. I thank our fans, and I’m proud we were able to make this show to shine light in the darkness toward so many suffering today,” Boreanaz, who is also an executive producer, wrote in a statement. “I look forward to Season 7 and the opportunity to end this series with love and gratitude.”
It’s also reported that the SEAL Team movie, which was put into development in February 2022 to “expand the storytelling universe” has also been halted, according to TV Line.
“When we first heard the pitch for SEAL Team almost seven years ago, I was struck by the producers’ genuine passion to tell authentic stories that honored and celebrated the sacrifice of veterans and all those who serve our country,” added David Stapf, President, CBS Studios. “Since that first meeting, they have not wavered in that mission. The characters, storylines and cast performances have continued to be both nuanced and powerful. Thank you to David, Spencer, Chris, Mark and the entire cast and crew for their partnership, creative vision, and dedication. We are looking forward to an exciting and satisfying seventh and final season.”
The final season of SEAL Team will start production in early December and air sometime in 2024 (a premiere date has not yet been announced). The series marks the second show under CBS Entertainment that will be ending after seven seasons. The Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon will also be concluding with Season 7 on CBS.
