News Room

Travis Kelce is one of the most famous and successful football players in the game today. He’s made millions and established himself as a star in his own right, and his recent relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift has only taken his fame to new heights. Now, he’s expanded his talents into music, and clearly, Americans are interested in what he has to say—or sing.

The NFL player has scored his first No. 1 hit song in the U.S. with the newly-released “Fairytale Of Philadelphia.” The tune was released on Wednesday, November 15, and it didn’t take very long before it became a bestseller. The track has risen to No. 1 on the iTunes American chart, standing out as the top-selling title on one of the most important digital download stores in the largest music market in the world.

“Fairytale Of Philadelphia” is so successful, it actually appears inside the top 10 on the American iTunes chart more than once. As of Thursday, November 16, two versions of the same title rank within the highest tier on the tally. As of the writing of this article, one take is up at No. 1, while another sits at No. 6.

Kelce may be helping “Fairytale Of Philadelphia” become a bestseller thanks to his profile, but he’s not alone in this success. The track is credited to Kelce, his brother Jason, and a band known as The Philly Specials.

“Fairytale Of Philadelphia” is a reworking of the holiday classic “Fairytale of New York,” first made famous by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl in the ‘80s. It has remained a staple of the season, especially in the U.K., where it remains one of the most popular Christmas songs ever. The Kelce brothers and The Philly Specials changed some of the words to make it fit the city of Philadelphia, and they had a quick win on their hands.

The tune was recorded and released as part of a charity effort that’s become an annual thing for the Eagles. Jason is a player on the team, and last year, he and his teammates released a Christmas album to raise money for worthy causes. Now, he’s roped his brother into the latest iteration, titled A Philly Special Christmas Special, turning the latest song spun off of the forthcoming album into a quick iTunes hit.
