Is Amazon Music free with Prime?

Amazon Music has three different pricing tiers: Amazon Music Free, Amazon Music Prime, and Amazon Music Unlimited.

  • Amazon Music Free is free for everyone, no Prime account needed, but features are limited.
  • Amazon Music Prime is free for members of Amazon Prime. Features include ad-free music listening, pick-and-play songs from certain playlists with no skip limits, and limited offline playback.
  • Amazon Music Unlimited costs $9.99 per month, with no Prime membership required. It allows pick-and-play for any song, no ads, HD and ultra HD listening, offline listening, personalized playlists, and more.

With both Amazon Music Free and Amazon Music Prime, only one device can stream audio at a time. Amazon Music Unlimited has different plan options based on the number of devices you’d like to use simultaneously.

Amazon Music Prime changes in November 2022 frustrated members who could no longer choose and play individual songs without paying an extra monthly fee. The news came on the heels of Amazon adding 98 million songs to the platform.

The differences between Amazon Music Prime and Amazon Music Unlimited

One of the key differences between the two subscription levels is the ability to play any song on demand.

Amazon Music Prime users can pick and play any song from 15 “All-Access Playlists,” curated playlists based on your musical taste and listening. You can also create your own All-Access Playlist or choose one of your playlists to be All Access, if it’s marked as eligible. Outside of All-Access Playlists, songs will shuffle by default.

You can skip as many songs as you’d like if you’re listening to an All-Access Playlist, while other playlists will have limited skips. You can only download All-Access songs for offline listening.

Amazon Music Unlimited, a premium music streaming offering, gives you free navigation of all playlists, with the ability to play any song on demand and unlimited skips throughout all playlists. You can also download anything for offline play.

Only Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can access HD, ultra HD, and spatial audio. Spatial audio is a “multidimensional audio experience” that gives songs extra clarity and depth beyond the capabilities of traditional stereo.
