The Dave Matthews Band makes a noteworthy return to the Billboard charts this week, debuting on several rankings, but not with something newly released. Instead, they arrive on a handful of lists with something that is new to these tallies specifically.
Before These Crowded Streets debuts on a handful of Billboard charts this week. Despite being released in 1998, the band’s album now appears on various lists for the first time, as they were implemented by the chart company after its original release.
The album achieves its highest debut on the Top Alternative Albums chart, where it enters at No. 5. This marks the Dave Matthews Band’s fifth top 10 on the tally and their eighth overall placement.
Before These Crowded Streets also secures a lofty position on the Top Rock Albums, starting at No. 10. Although it barely breaks into the top 10, this achievement adds to the band’s track record. They have now scored nine top 10 titles on the ranking and 15 in total when considering the full list.
The same title begins its journey on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart at No. 13. Before These Crowded Streets misses the top 10 on this comprehensive ranking of the most-consumed rock and alternative EPs and full-lengths in the U.S., but not by much. It also doesn’t earn the honor of being the highest-ranking debut this frame. That title goes to Jimmy Buffett and his posthumous release Equal Strain on All Parts.
Fans enthusiastically embraced a new special edition of Before These Crowded Streets, which was released to celebrate the album’s twenty-fifth anniversary. The set was re-released on several vinyl albums accompanied by a new book, which caters to the band’s longtime followers.
