A man behind a long-running Yellow Pages scam that targeted churches, doctors’ offices and other small businesses has pleaded guilty to ripping off hundreds of unsuspecting victims around the country.
Stefan Chernev, 49, who hails from Bulgaria, admitted in federal court in upstate New York that he and his brother had run the scam for years, sending phony invoices and collection notices for Yellow Pages ads that didn’t exist.
