Filming for Daredevil: Born Again has begun in earnest after a grand reset with new showrunners, directors, writers and additional returning cast members.
Now, set shots are revealing some interesting additions to the show, but if you want to know nothing about its new heroes or villains, you may not want to read this. Spoilers follow.
First, set shots confirmed that yes, both Karen Page and Foggy Nelson are back after being cut (killed off?) from the first version of the show. That was reported earlier, but now we can see it for ourselves. Foggy got a cool haircut!
However, we now have set shots that indicate that one, if not two new villains are being added this season. I’m not going to post the actual videos here, but who we think we’ve seen is:
White Tiger – A white-clad person in what appears to be the signature stripes of White Tiger has appeared on set, and it appears to be the male version of the character, Hector Ayala, as opposed to his younger sister Ava Ayala, who have both taken on the mantle. He was Marvel’s first Hispanic superhero all the way back in 1975.
White Tiger has superhuman strength and skill in marital arts thanks to mystical amulets, though we don’t know if he’ll have the same sort of power generation here. He has previously fought alongside Spider-Man and Daredevil, and at one point, Matt Murdock defended him when he was wrongly accused of murder, though he was shot dead before he was proven innocent. It remains unclear if White Tiger’s appearance will have any resemblance to that storyline, or if he may just be a new “street level” hero addition as Marvel builds up this aspect of the universe.
Muse – A villain potentially joining the show as an addition to Kingpin and the returning Bullseye. Someone fans believe is Muse has been spotted doing Kingpin graffiti on set, which tracks with the “deranged artist” character. Muse has had some very violent storylines in Daredevil lore, and his appearance also coincides with Wilson Fisk becoming mayor, which we know is a development in Born Again. Muse slaughtered Inhumans and police alike in his rampage, and some of his crimes were blamed on The Punisher, who as we know is also appearing this season. So it’s possible that Muse’s storyline will end up resembling the comic run here, given the baseline similarities.
We still do not know how many episodes Daredevil: Born Again will be, but with Matt, Kingpin, Karen, Foggy, Bullseye, Punisher and now potentially White Tiger and Muse, it’s a full roster, so hopefully they all have time to breathe. Looking forward to more.
