Wednesday and Scream star Jenna Ortega’s latest movie — which was a flop in U.S. theaters — is making its streaming debut on Netflix.
As blazing hot as Ortega’s career has been, every actor is prone to a misfire now and then, which is the case with her latest film Miller’s Girl. According to box office tracker The Numbers, Miller’s Girl was released on January 26 on 350 screens domestically and earned only $321,000 in ticket sales in the one week it played in theaters.
The film fared a bit better overseas, taking in an additional $465,394 at the international box office. Still, the domestic and international numbers were underwhelming considering that Miller’s Girl had a $4 million production budget.
The good news for Ortega fans is that the movie will soon be able to stream for free, provided that you’re a Netflix subscriber. Netflix announced this week that Miller’s Girl will premiere on its streaming platform on April 25.
In Miller’s Girl — an R-rated film that is billed as a comedy-drama — Ortega plays Cairo Sweet, an 18-year-old high school senior who develops a highly inappropriate relationship with her much older teacher Jonathan Miller (Martin Freeman).
The film took a critical drubbing on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes, where it earned a “rotten” 29% rating based on 58 reviews. The audience score wasn’t much better, as it earned a 42% positive score based on 50-plus verified ratings.
‘Miller’s Girl’ Is Already Available to Rent On Digital Video
For Jenna Ortega fans who can’t wait to stream Miller’s Girl on Netflix, there are options available to see the film earlier than April 25.
Currently, Miller’s Girl is available for digital rental on such online platforms as AppleTV+, Prime Video and VUDU for $5.99. Prime Video and VUDU also offer a digital purchase option for Miller’s Girl at $9.99 and $14.99, respectively.
Ortega has become one of the hottest stars in Hollywood the past couple of years with her memorable turns as Wednesday Addams in the smash Netflix series Wednesday, and as Tara Carpenter in Scream V and Scream VI.
In addition to that, director Tim Burton cast her in the hotly anticipated Beetlejuice sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice as Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) from the original film. The supernatural comedy will be released in theaters on September 6.
Kicking off her career in 2012, Ortega, 21, has already amassed more than 40 screen credits with roles in such series as Jane the Virgin — as the young version of Gina Rodriguez’s title character — and the voice role of Princess Isabel in the animated show Elena of Avalor. Ortega also voiced the role of Brooklynn in the animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
Ortega’s movie credits include the Netflix original horror comedy The Babysitter: Killer Queen and the indie horror thriller X opposite Mia Goth.
Ortega will reprise her role of Wednesday Addams in Wednesday Season 2, which will debut on Netflix sometime in 2025.
