News Room

The Unfrosted Pop-Tarts movie is toast after one week atop Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies chart.

According to the streaming service’s numbers for the week of May 6-12, the romantic comedy Mother of the Bride became Netflix’s most-viewed movie worldwide in its first week of release. The film, the streamer reported, was viewed 26.7 million times, which equates to 40 million hours viewed.

Meanwhile, Unfrosted—which debuted at No. 1 on the Netflix Global Top 10 Movies chart last week after premiering on the streaming service on May 3—dropped to No. 2 with 8.8 million views, which translates to 14.1 million viewing hours.

A fictional look at the battle between breakfast cereal giants Kellogg’s and Post to become the first company to invent a toaster pastry, Unfrosted is directed by Jerry Seinfeld, who also stars in the film alongside Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan and Amy Schumer.

What is ‘Mother of the Bride’ About?

Mother of the Bride—which also topped Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 Movies chart— stars Brooke Shields as Lana. After her daughter, Emma (Miranda Cosgrove), returns home from traveling abroad, Lana learns she is about to marry the love of her life.

The problem is, that Emma’s future husband, RJ (Sean Teale), also happens to be the son of Will (Benjamin Bratt), a man who broke Lana’s heart years earlier when they dated in college.

Following Mother and the Bride and Unfrosted on the Netflix Global Top 10 Movies chart is the animated movie classic Shrek, which earned the No. 3 slot after being viewed 8.5 million times, equating to 12.8 million hours viewed.

The horror film Barbarian was No. 4 on the global chart (4.6 million views/8 million viewing hours), followed by the original Netflix documentary Secrets of the Neanderthals (4.3 million viewers/5.7 million viewing hours) to round out the top five.
