Most people in the MMA community called it a “knot” or a “bump.”
The correct term is hematoma. Whatever you call it, Ricky Glenn had a pretty serious one on Saturday night in Perth, Australia, on the UFC 305 prelims card.
Look at the knot Glenn was wearing after taking a stiff flying knee from Song Kenan.
The swelling on Glenn’s head was so big that a portion had a different complexion than the rest of his face. Song controlled the fight with his striking, winning a unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 29-28).
During the fight, many members of the MMA community took to X to comment and post images of the knot.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu expert Josie Aldo gave is a short interjection.
Spinnin Backfist called the knot “outrageous.”
UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad summed it all up with a short response.
ESPN MMA went to emojis to call out the “big bump” on Glenn’s head.
Current featherweight contender and former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling wondered aloud about the cause of Glenn’s hematoma and also inquired about the kind of blow that creates the lumps.
It appears Glenn suffered the hematoma following this jumping knee from Song.
Song. Glenn was dazed and hurt a few times, but the UFC veteran is as tough as they come and never looked in danger of being stopped.
Glenn finds himself in a challenging position in his MMA career. The 35-year-old from Marshalltown, Iowa, has now lost three straight fights. While he didn’t get stopped against Song, he was stopped in the two losses before Saturday night’s fight.
He’s late in his career and suffered a lot of damage over the past two years. It could be a must-win situation if he gets another fight in the UFC. Song has been in the UFC since 2017 but needed the win on Saturday night.
Song was coming off a loss to Kevin Jousset in December 2023. He’s now alternated wins and losses over his past three fights. Look for Song to get one more fight before the end of the year as he attempts to move closer to being ranked in the UFC’s rugged welterweight division.
