Carbonara dumplings, welcome to America!
South Korea’s Samyang Foods, the parent company of Buldak, known for it’s social media famous instant noodles, is bringing even more hypeworthy easy-to-eat fare to the United States.
This fall, two new products that will appease the American palate will be available at supermarkets nationwide: Buldak Carbonara Dumplings and Buldak Sauce Sticks.
Noodle enthusiasts (or mukbang loyalists) may already be familiar with the viral pink packages of Buldak Cream Carbonara Spicy Chicken Ramen, known for being creamy, savory and packing in peppery heat. Impossible to find earlier this year, the spicy instant carbonara noodles from Korea are now available via most online retailers and at American supermarkets.
And though the instant noodles are shelf stable, the brand new dumplings are fresher and sold frozen.
The Buldak Carbonara Dumplings follow the same flavor combo as the noodles, filling dumplings with a blend of vermicelli, cabbage, tofu, spring onion and Buldak Carbonara Hot Chicken Flavor sauce. The specialty dumplings can be steamed, boiled, fried, or heated in the microwave without defrosting for a quick carbonara bite. A 24-oz package will retail for $7.99 and can be found in Asian supermarkets, including H Mart.
Those craving even more spice can now also load up on Buldak’s Hot Chicken flavor thanks to Buldak Hot Sauce in new to-go packets. Buldak Sauce Sticks are sold in bundles of 50 individual sauce packets for $9.99, so fans can add Buldak heat to any dish, anywhere, including carbonara, from well, any kitchen.
Though Gen Z and even Gen Alpha can’t get enough of Samyang Foods’ products, the company is solidly of the Boomer generation. Launched in 1963, Samyang is known as creating South Korea’s first-ever instant ramen, and has been a go-to for convenient, low-cost meals in the six decades since.
“Having enough to eat ensures peace throughout the world,” was the mission statement of founder Chairman Chun Joong-yoon, who believed that food sufficiency could help attain world peace.
The company expanded to the United States in 1984 and now offers several CPGs including Buldak ramyun (also called Buldak ramen), Buldak sauce, Samyang ramen (available in more traditional Korean noodle styles, like jjajang ramen and kimchi ramen), Krazy Tiger (a line of shelf-stable Korean sauces and condiments, including kimchi and seaweed chips), and Tangle, Korean inspired pasta (K-Pasta) made with air-dried noodles and Korean sauces.
Those excited about Buldak’s carbonara products may also enjoy Tangle, which comes in varieties such as bulgogi alfredo and kimchi rosé, both sold in plastic packets or cardboard bowls.
