Another day, another NYT Strands grid to solve. These have been a little easier than usual lately which is kind of a disappointment. I suppose it’s tricky to balance accessibility and challenge with a game like this, but sometimes it feels awfully obvious. In any case, let’s solve today’s.

Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day’s theme.

Today’s Strands Breakdown

I quite quickly found YIELD and STOP today, and then SIGNS though that didn’t yield an actual answer. I was pretty sure it was part of the spangram, but couldn’t figure out the rest just yet. Clearly this had something to do with signs you encounter while driving, though, and once I found BUMP and DETOUR, the rest was obvious: TRAFFICSIGNS. From here, I found MERGE and then had to puzzle over the final, rather long, word though eventually it turned up as CONSTRUCTION.
