Despicable Me 4—the animated blockbuster starring the voices of Steve Carell and Will Ferrell—is new on streaming on Peacock this week.
Despicable Me 4 opened in theaters on July 3. In the film, former supervillain Gru (Carell)—now a superstar agent with the Anti-Villain League—busts a supervillainous high school classmate, Maxime (Ferrell), after he harnesses the power of cockroaches.
Maxime uses his newly acquired superpowers to seek revenge against Gru, his wife and fellow AVL agent Lucy (Kristen Wiig) and their family, so the AVL moves them to a safe house in the suburb along with three Minions. The rest of the Minions take up residence in the AVL headquarters.

How ‘Despicable Me 4’ Offers A Fresh Take On The Superhero Genre
Despicable Me 4 is a departure from the previous Despicable Me and Minions movie in that five of the yellow, pill-shaped troublemakers take part in a special program at AVL headquarters that gives them superpowers.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter just after the film was released in theaters, director Chris Renaud said the filmmakers had batted around the super Minion concept before but held off until the latest film because they came up with a fresh way to work the idea into the script.
“We’ve actually had conversations about giving the Minions superpowers since Despicable Me 2,” Renaud told THR. “We even pulled out some old sketches because, in that movie, they became the purple evil Minions.
“Obviously, not only is there a lot of superhero material out there, but there’s a lot of comedic superhero material that’s been done in both live-action and in animation,” Renaud contined. “Their incompetence and their Minion-esque qualities is how we could make them feel like a fresh interpretation of superheroes.”
According to The Numbers, Despicable Me 4 made $361 million domestically and $604.2 million for a worldwide box office tally of $965.2 million during its theatrical run against a $100 million production budget before prints and advertising costs.
Viewers who don’t have Peacock can also purchase or rent Despicable Me 4 on digital streaming via premium video on demand. The film is also available on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD.
