It’s lazy Sunday and I have plans, naturally, though they’re all pretty fun. I’m taking my kids to Wicked this afternoon, which I’m very excited to see. I’ve seen the musical twice, once off Broadway, once on Broadway (this summer, in fact, when I went to NYC and saw four shows in two days!) and I’ve read the Gregory Maguire book(s) upon which the musical is based. Of course, the books and musical are all based on The Wizard Of Oz, originally a book (and series of books) by L. Frank Baum, and of course one of the most famous movies of all time.
When I was in D.C. this summer, I went to the Smithsonian National Museum Of American History and saw the actual Ruby Slippers Dorothy (Judy Garland) wore in the film. It was actually such an astonishing experience. The entire exhibit—which included costumes and props from films like Star Wars and TV shows like Sesame Street—was just incredible. Whoever said history can’t be fun?

Wordle Bot gave me a 99 Skill rating today, which is a nice boost to morale. STARE was a good opening guess, leaving me with just 26 words and two yellow boxes. I followed that up with MOIST because it was the first word that came to mind that repositioned the S and T where I wanted them at the end of the word. This, too, was a solid move. I now had 3 green boxes and could only come up with one word: TWIST for the win! Turns out, another word could have worked: WHIST. That would have stumped me good and proper!

I get 1 point for guessing in three and 1 point for beating the Bot, who took four guesses today. 2 points for me! Huzzah!
How To Play Competitive Wordle
- Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
- If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
- Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
- You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!
Today’s Wordle Etymology
The word “twist” originates from Old English “twist”, meaning “rope” or “cord,” derived from Proto-Germanic “twistaz” (“a division, a fork”) and ultimately from the Proto-Indo-European root “dwo-“, meaning “two,” reflecting the idea of intertwining or turning two things together.
