Jade Is The ‘It Girl’ On New Single

Former Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall is wasting little time in kicking 2025 off to a good start. The release of her first solo singles “Angel of My Dreams” and “Fantasy” last year signaled the impending drop of her debut album. The latest piece of the project, “It Girl,” is out now, and like the other tracks from the project that have been released, it offers a different sound from the British songstress.

Jade called “It Girl” the “c***y little sister” of the album’s lead single “Angel of My Dreams” in an interview with Clash in November. “She goes bigger, harder, and deeper,” she said. “[‘It Girl’] was an easier one to write because I knew what I wanted to say. It’s what pop should be: playful, confrontational but still a bop.”

On the track, Jade seemingly takes aim at an industry that is eager to take advantage of women in as many ways as possible. “Sign on the line for me / Baby, smile, but don’t show your teeth / Say ‘goodbye’ to autonomy / Now your body belongs to me,” she sings. “Throw me them roses / Well, that’s just showbiz, baby / Won’t sugarcoat it / You make me feel sick.”

The romantic interest in question here is the industry itself, as she explained in the lead-up to the song’s release when reflecting on her introduction to the world being on The X Factor.

“I liken it to a relationship because it gave me so much but also took too much,” she told Clash. “It’s a show that says as a 25-year-old you’re too old to be a pop star. That seems like the perfect age to go into this. You don’t have the tools to express yourself when you’re 17. I wouldn’t do it that way again.”
