There isn’t a bad time to come to Mexico City, but Mexico City Art Week should be on every art lover’s bucket list. From Februarty 5 to 9, 2025, dozens of galleries and museums across the city will host shows and events featuring artists from around the world for a serious feast for the senses. A city renowned for more than 170 museums and public art that spans centuries, my hometown is second to none.

Among the dozens of events and art-filled spaces, Mexico City Art Week 2025 will also see the 21st edition of Zsona Maco, the largest contemporary art fair in Latin America. This already vibrant city will be buzzing with activity in galleries, restaurants, bars and clubs all week long showcasing design, photography, antiques and contemporary art.

These hotels – most of them new or newly refurbished – are not only fabulous places to stay; they embrace the artistic ethos of the city through their varied architecture, interior design, impressive art collections and outstanding food and drink.

Casona Roma Norte

The latest addition to Mexico’s distinguished Hamak Hotels collection, Casona Roma Norte occupies a recently restored mansion from the 1920s, blending various historical architectural styles, intricate details and Art Nouveau-influenced nature-inspired designs and Porfirian high ceilings and grand spaces.

With art from both local and international artists displayed throughout the property, the hotel seems like a gallery in itself. From the rooms and hallways to the reception area, the hotel’s art collection serves as a central feature. The collection includes a mural by renowned visual artist James Bullough, photography by Santiago Arau, cutout collages by Maria Rec and artwork from Mexico City artist Carolina Barros.

Dine and Drink

Casona Roma Norte is home to six dining concepts, curated by celebrity chef Aquiles Chavez and restaurateur and author Claudio Poblete. Currently, only four are open, with a rooftop grill and a speakeasy bar set to open this spring.

Suchi Nipona & Sinaloa Cuisine creatively fuses Sinaloa style Mexican antojitos and Japanese cuisine using Pacific Coast fish, paired with Mexican sake. Underground bar Akamba offers a curated selection of national distillates, including mezcal, tequila, raicilla, bacanoras, and Xtabentún, with insights from an expert Mexican Spirits Master Concierge, who can craft cocktails tailored to guests’ palates.

Aquiles serves seasonal comfort cuisine crafted from local produce, while Matcha Saloon by local bakery La Macaria merges the serene ambiance of a Japanese tea room with the French pastry mastery for which La Macaria is famous.

Alexander Hotel

This new boutique hotel opened in April 2024 in the Torre Virreyes skyscraper in the heart of the new financial district near Bosques de Chapultepec. But don’t let the businesslike exterior fool you. The hotel’s design, led by acclaimed architect Daniel Álvarez, incorporates upscale Italian-inspired decor, featuring a stand-out oval-shaped bar, and elegant lighting fixtures complemented by natural lighting from floor to ceiling windows with views of the city.

As an official sponsor of Art Week, Alexander Hotel partnered with Zsona Maco to host unique events, featuring renowned multidisciplinary artist Alexander Zuleta. The hotel will be featuring cocktail parties and special events through the week, in conjunction with its sister property, Hotel Volga.

Dine and Drink

The five-star property features Mexico’s first Caviar Bar, serving Petrossian caviar varieties and a selection of champagnes and signature cocktails to pair. Executive Chef Ana Sophia Serrano curated a menu that includes Petrossian caviar varieties with offerings of Beluga, Osetra, and Daurenki caviar into signature dishes like homemade truffle tagliolini, Wagyu filet, and a decadent chocolate mousse topped with, yes, caviar.

Head bartender and mixologist, Jonathan Botello Garcini, has created a beverage program to match, including the signature Alexander Martini, crafted with Belvedere 10 Vodka and served with a kumamoto oyster topped with Baeri caviar. If there was a cocktail and bite pairing made in heaven, this certainly would be it. Of course, where there’s caviar there’s Champagne, and the selection at this gorgeous, elegant space does not disappoint.

Andaz Mexico City Condesa

Located in the crossroads of two iconic neighborhoods – Roma Norte and La Condesa – Andaz Mexico City Condesa is the ultimate home base for immersive exploration of the local culture and art scene. Brightly colored neon adorns counters and escalators, contrasting with earth tones and natural materials such as wood and stone to create a visually appealing yet serene surrounding.

During Mexico City Art Week 2025, the hotel will host various events and parties, as well as a curated art displays at the Main Patio, featuring Galeria Furiosa and artists including Charlie Nesi, Jordi Hernandez and Estevan Huacuja. There will be food and drink pop-ups by Bobo Burgers and Bar Paricuta, as well as live DJ sets at Cabuya Rooftop Bar.

The culinary star of the property, Cabuya Rooftop occupies a beautiful space that invokes a beachside palapa, with colorful murals, lush plants and floor-to-ceiling glass walls with unparalelled views of the city. The restaurant has recently unveiled a new menu created by the hotel’s executive chef Davide Preziuso and Cabuya chef Mario Correa.

Expect classic favorites like fresh ceviche, tostadas and aguachiles made with premium sustainable catches; an outstanding soft shell crab taco with chipotle tartar sauce; prime grilled meats and fish, family-style specialties and a selections of vegeratian dishes that are not an afterthought. The bar program is fantastic, with fresh takes on cocktails and an excellent selection of wines.

For a more relaxed experience featuring burgers, craft beer and board games visit Wooftop Beer Garden & Canine Club, an indoor-outdoor terrace where our furry friends can also play and enjoy a special menu designed for them. And for breakfast, don’t miss coffee and pastries at Matcha Cafe on the second floor.

Mondrian Mexico City

Adjacent to Andaz is another artful hotel: Mondrian Mexico City. This five-star property is clad in bold, sophisticated design influenced by the local cultural scene and contemporary art. For instance, each of theguest rooms features a mural by multi-disciplinary artist Ara Starck, inspired by one of the city’s remaining aqueducts located just a few blocks from the hotel.

On the main patio, a mosaic mural recreates the Panathenaic Procession and a 4-meter-high replica of “La Giganta,” originally created in 1985 by the Mexican painter and sculptor José Luis Cuevas, is one of the most impressive sculptures within the complex.

Mondriam Mexico City is home to three distinct culinary concepts – SkyBar, The Flower Shop, and La Terraza. On the ground floor, The Flower Shop is a floral boutique and gift shop serving pastries, coffee, and wine, while the adjacent La Terraza is a laid back, tapas-style restaurant set in the sunlit courtyard. On the top floor, the recently revamped SkyBar is, an adults-only rooftop with panoramic views of the city and a sophisticated Latin vibe.

The menu highlights local ingredients and favorite dishes in creative preparations, lots of fresh ceviches from the raw bar, chargrilled meats served in tacos and burgers and sharable snacks, accompanied by craft cocktails and wine.

Hotel Volga

An art exhibit unto itself, Hotel Volga is a recent addition to the downtown area, in the vibrant Cuauhtémoc neighborhood, boasting sleek modern interior design, evocative art installations and exclusive pop-ups showcasing globally recognized artists. Designed by local firm JSa Architects, Volga has a striking brutalist exterior that opens to a soaring open-air atrium filled with plants, unique furnishings and a stunning large-scale lava stone, brass and travertine artwork of world-renowned sculptor, painter and visual artist Perla Krauze.

The boutique, 1-MICHELIN Key hotel will host various Zona Maco events, including its exclusive Urban Art Gallery Cocktail on February 6th. Guests can mingle with the artists showcased throughout the fair both on Volga’s chic rooftop craft cocktail bar and in its subterranean Minos Sound Room.

Dine and Drink

Elora Restaurant is highly regarded for its inventive Mediterranean cuisine, led by the hotel’s new executive chef, Sergio Esquivel. The menu features traditional flavors and concepts with regional inspiration and the use of high quality, local Mexican ingredients. Highlights include a potato croquette and kampachi tartare, roasted octopus and mascarpone cheese flan.

Minos is Volga’s ultra-private subterranean music room and serious cocktail bar, where local DJs (vinyl and digital) and international music guests make appearances regularly. Adding to the allure, only in-the-know locals are hip to its presence – and access to the entertainment space is available through reservations only.
