One of the best new series of the year is Silo on Apple TV+, a rare sci-fi gem in an era when most streaming services except Apple seem to be moving away from the expensive genre.
Silo is currently Apple’s #1 show, and as such, it was recently renewed for season 2, so no need to fret about whether the show will return after its big cliffhanger ending. This isn’t Netflix, it was greenlit for renewal two weeks ago before it even ended.
So, with that out of the way, what can we expect from it? That’s without going into book spoilers, at least, as the show is based on a series of novels from Hugh Howey. We have not quite reached the end of the first book, Wool, as season 1 did not fully cover its ending. It feels like season 2 will probably be the end of the first book and perhaps the beginning of the second, as I’m not quite sure that the show will extend itself to only contain the rest of the events from the end of book one.
The fact that there are three books, and this is the pace things are going, I would put Silo at about 4-5 seasons when all is said and done, if Apple lets it reach the end. Apple TV+ is a pretty new service in the grand scheme of things so it really doesn’t have shows that last that long, if any, but we’ll see how things go here.
Silo star Rebecca Ferguson is already talking about season 2 a little bit. But she can’t get into details (via Collider):
“Oh, buddy, you’re gonna have to see. That is such a good question. If I tell you, I’m gonna have to kill you. So, you know, we’re stuck in that. There’s a big door down there. I know we haven’t activated the door without wanting to explore what the door might be. I’m just gonna leave it right there.”
I think we can kind of guess what the big door is, given the end of the season (spoilers follow). Given that Juliette sees a bunch of other Silo entrances all around her when she exits her own Silo, it stands to reason that the door connects to one next door.
We also have a rough timeline of when season 2 is filming, which is uh, now.
“I think two, three years ahead. Right now, sir, it’s one fantastic fucking show, and we’ve green-lit number two. Apple is extremely happy, and I’m happier. That’s where I’m gonna leave it. We started filming Season 2 quite recently, so we are chockablock, smack back in the beginning of the shoot. I am doing this for some time in the future.”
She also says she’s blocking out November for another shoot, which I assume is also for Silo, though Ferguson is a busy actress as a key part of the Mission Impossible series as well. Oh, and Dune. Yeah uh, extremely busy. Did you know she was Swedish? I had no idea. Just found that now while look her up for this article, ha.
Anyway, cannot wait for more Silo.
