Olivia Rodrigo Takes On Morgan Wallen For Hot 100 Supremacy

News Room

On Friday, June 30, Olivia Rodrigo kicked off the next chapter of her music career with the official release of her new single, “Vampire.” The highly anticipated track serves as a preview of her upcoming album Guts, which is scheduled to be released later this year. While it’s still early days for the song, there are already indications that “Vampire” may put an end to Morgan Wallen’s impressive streak at the top of the Hot 100 chart.

Various industry experts and predictors have expressed their belief that “Vampire” has a strong chance of debuting at No. 1 on the Hot 100 next week. The song has several more days to accumulate streams, sales, and radio play, as its first tracking week concludes on Thursday, July 6. Given Rodrigo’s immense popularity, a substantial debut of some kind is expected for “Vampire.”

If “Vampire” does indeed open at No. 1 on the Hot 100, it will be the latest track to interrupt Wallen’s reign at the top of the chart. Wallen’s single, “Last Night,” has maintained its position for months and is currently running the show for its lucky thirteenth week, according to Billboard.

Rodrigo could become the next artist to dethrone Wallen’s “Last Night” from the pinnacle of the Hot 100. Since the country track made its debut at the top of the ranking, only three songs have surpassed it: Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” (which returned to the highest spot after Wallen’s debut), Jimin’s “Like Crazy,” and SZA’s “Kill Bill.” No one has been able to achieve this feat in recent months, as Wallen has maintained his dominance over the chart since early May.

While “Vampire” is not a guaranteed victory, it does appear to have the potential to give Wallen a run for his money. Rodrigo’s previous album Sour produced two No. 1 debuts on the Hot 100 with “Drivers License” and “Good 4 U.” So, another chart-topping entry from her wouldn’t be surprising, especially considering how excited her fan base is for this track. Breaking Wallen’s stronghold at the top would provide a breath of fresh air on the Hot 100 chart and once again prove how huge Rodrigo is in today’s musical landscape.
