Nicki Minaj Breaks Her Tie With BTS’s Jimin With Her New No. 1 Hit

News Room

Nicki Minaj has once again hit No. 1 on a Billboard chart she knows very well with her latest single, “Barbie World.” The track, featured on the soundtrack for the Barbie movie, has catapulted onto several rankings, solidifying Minaj’s position as a chart-topping artist and helping her break a tie with another one of the most famous members of the music industry.

Debuting at No. 7 on this week’s Hot 100, “Barbie World”—which credits both Ice Spice and Aqua—owes its success largely to its strong sales performance right out of the gate. The tune immediately claims the top spot on the Digital Song Sales chart, Billboard’s ranking of tracks that sell the most copies. This chart differs from the Hot 100, as it solely focuses on sales, excluding streams and radio play. In its first week of availability, Minaj’s latest single sold an impressive 37,000 copies.

Minaj’s accomplishment with “Barbie World” extends beyond her personal success. With this latest chart-topper, she surpasses BTS singer Jimin, breaking their tie for the most No. 1 hits on the purchase-only tally in 2023. Prior to the release of “Barbie World,” both artists had secured three chart-toppers this year.

Minaj’s journey to chart domination began earlier in the year with her solo track, “Red Ruby da Sleeze,” which claimed the No. 1 spot on the Digital Song Sales chart in March. Since then, all of her chart-topping hits have been collaborative efforts.

The rapper previously scored a win with Spice, the hit single “Princess Diana.” That track reached No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart in late April, and it would be the beginning of a solid working partnership between the two. She continued her winning streak in mid-June, teaming up with Sexyy Red on the single “Pound Town 2,” featuring Tay Keith, which also went to No. 1 on the sales chart.

Jimin, on the other hand, has achieved most of his No. 1 hits on the Digital Song Sales chart as a solo artist. His first chart-topper in 2023 was “Set Me Free Pt. 2,” followed by the monumental success of “Like Crazy,” which helped make Jimin one of a relatively small group of acts to replace themselves atop the tally. That track still holds the record for the largest sales frame of the year. Most recently, he claimed his third No. 1 hit with “Angel Pt. 1,” a collaboration with rappers Kodak Black and NLE Choppa, also featuring Muni Long and Jvke.
