Fifty Fifty Ties Blackpink’s Record On Billboard’s Pop Chart

News Room

Fifty Fifty have established themselves as one of the top breakout new acts of 2023 with their hit single “Cupid.” Not only has the song achieved worldwide success, but it has also made significant waves at radio in the United States—a feat that is rare for South Korean acts. Now, “Cupid” has once again held its ground on an important chart, allowing the band to tie with another beloved act from their home country.

This week, “Cupid” climbs to No. 13 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, which ranks the songs that reach the largest audience on pop radio in America. While the rise from No. 14 is slight, the position is not the most important aspect this week.

What sets “Cupid” apart from other tracks by South Korean female stars is its longevity on the Pop Airplay chart, as the tune has now spent a total of eight weeks on the chart. While this may not be an extraordinary feat for well-established Western pop stars, it is historic for Fifty Fifty. Reaching eight weeks on the chart means that “Cupid” now shares the record for the most weeks spent on the tally by a South Korean girl group, tying with Blackpink.

Impressively, Blackpink has seen two tracks spend eight weeks on the Pop Airplay chart. In 2020, the quartet collaborated with Selena Gomez on “Ice Cream,” which proved to be a major success for them. The song remained on the chart for eight weeks before eventually dropping off.

Last year, Blackpink repeated this accomplishment with their single “Pink Venom,” which also spent eight weeks on the Pop Airplay chart. While it lived on the ranking for just as long, the tune didn’t climb as high, reaching only No. 32 compared to the No. 21 peak “Ice Cream” managed.

Currently, “Cupid” by Fifty Fifty continues to perform well and is still on the rise. It is highly likely that they will soon surpass their tie with Blackpink on the Pop Airplay chart. In fact, “Cupid” has the potential to become a rare top 10 hit by a South Korean act on the chart in just a matter of days. So far, only two names from South Korea—BTS and Psy—have achieved top 10 success on this competitive chart.
