Employers continued to steadily hire in the month of June with the U.S. economy adding 209,000 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate ticked down 0.1 percentage points to 3.6%.
Jobs in government, healthcare, social assistance and construction led the growth.
Government added 60,000 jobs in June, with both state and local governments contributing to that increase almost equally.
Healthcare added 41,000 jobs, led by hospitals nursing and residential care facilities and home health care services.
Construction with 23,000 jobs added is trending slightly above its 2022 average of adding 22,000 jobs monthly.
The closely watched leisure and hospitality sector added 21,000 jobs, whereas 48,000 were added in May.
Goods retailers like building materials, furniture and appliances declined, emphasizing the strength of growth among service-providing industries after the pandemic.
However, service-providing trade transportation and utilities lost 22,000 jobs, a notable change from the previous month’s gains of 37,000.
