Stray Kids Claim The Second-Bestselling Album In Korean History After Just One Month

News Room

Stray Kids have become one of the biggest and bestselling acts in the world after only a few years together, and nothing underlines their massive popularity like the success of their most recent release, The band’s latest album 5-Star now ranks as the second-bestselling album in Korean history, just over a month after it dropped.

The Circle chart, one of the two major music charts in South Korea and comparable to Billboard in the United States, released its monthly rankings of the bestselling albums in June 2023, with 5-Star taking the top spot by an enormous margin.

According to the Circle Charts, 5-Star has sold an impressive 5,242,486 copies since its release on June 2. It is worth noting that these numbers represent actual sales, unlike in the U.S., where reported figures often include equivalent units derived from streams, individual track purchases, and some sales of the full project.

With these remarkable sales figures, 5-Star joins an exclusive club of albums in South Korean history to have sold five million copies. The only release that has performed better is Seventeen’s FML, which has sold around six million copies since its release earlier in 2023.

Stray Kids’ dominance extended beyond South Korea, as 5-Star conquered charts worldwide upon its release in early June. According to Hanteo, another influential South Korean music chart, the album sold nearly 2.4 million copies on its first day of availability. Within its first week, it reached approximately 4.6 million in sales in the Asian nation, where the group enjoys significant popularity. 5-Star also debuted at No. 1 on the prestigious Billboard 200 chart in the United States, securing Stray Kids their third chart-topping album in America.
