‘Barbie’ Brings Matchbox 20 Back To The Billboard Charts

News Room

The Barbie movie is so massive that its soundtrack has made its presence felt across the Billboard charts, making a resounding impact this week. The compilation has starts at No. 2 on both the Billboard 200 and Top Album Sales rankings, and many of the songs featured on its tracklist are generously scattered across various tallies.

One particular track that is showcased in the film experiences a notable resurgence year after its heyday. The success of the movie, and in turn, the song, has brought the band behind it back to certain rankings and helps them reach several for the first time.

Matchbox 20’s single “Push” plays an integral role in Barbie, especially during a poignant scene where Ryan Gosling’s Ken and other characters exuberantly render their unique versions of the tune for the Barbies. As the movie continues to dominate both the pop culture conversation and the box office, the original recording of the rock band’s “Push” sees a remarkable revival in prominence.

Billboard reports that “Push” debuts on three charts this week, securing noteworthy starts across each of them. This accomplishment is especially noteworthy given the fact that “Push” is now several decades old.

Matchbox 20’s “Push” enjoys its highest debut on the Hot Alternative Songs chart, firmly positioning itself at No. 11. Similarly, on the Hot Rock Songs tally, the track establishes its presence at No. 13. The tune also reaches the comprehensive Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, commencing its time on the tally at No. 17.

Astonishingly, this week marks the very first time that the rock band has managed to grace these three specific charts. That’s surprising, considering their substantial success throughout the ’90s and ’00s.

Billboard’s reports that “Push” amassed three million streams in the past tracking period alone in just the U.S.. This figure reflects a substantial 31% increase from the preceding timeframe. The track’s sales soared by over 200%, with 1,000 copies being purchases as well.

Another variation of “Push,” performed by Gosling’s himself, was also included as part of a deluxe edition of the Barbie album. While this version enjoyed similar sales to the original take, it garnered approximately one-third of the streams when compared to the best-known single.
