- RBI executive chairman Patrick Doyle slipped up and called Popeyes “Domino’s” during an earnings call.
- RBI owns Burger King, Tim Hortons, Popeyes, and Firehouse Subs. It does not own Domino’s.
- Doyle led Domino’s for eight years. He joked he would send its current CEO $20 to make up for the mistake.
The executive chairman of a major restaurant conglomerate made a slip up when he got one of its brands confused with the pizzeria chain he used to lead during a call with investors.
Since November, Patrick Doyle has served as executive chairman of Restaurant Brands International, which owns the quick service brands Burger King, Tim Hortons, Popeyes, and Firehouse Subs. Between 2010 and 2018, Doyle was CEO of Domino’s, where he was praised for helping turn around the brand and fix its reputation.
It appears that pizza was on his mind when he made a slip of the tongue at RBI’s second-quarter earnings call on Tuesday.
“At Domino’s in the US, we’re focused on easy, making our restaurants easy to run, our food easy to crave, and our products easy to access,” Doyle told investors.
Shortly after, Doyle was alerted to his error.
“It was just pointed out to me by a few people that I said Domino’s during the script instead of Popeyes,” he said.
“I’m sending Russell $20 by Venmo to fix that,” he continued, seemingly referring to Domino’s CEO Russell Weiner. “Sorry about that.”
