- McDonald’s new ‘Famous Order’ meal is inspired by TV shows and films mentioning the chain.
- The “As Featured In Meal” includes “Loki” sweet ‘n sour sauce, a nod to the Marvel series.
- McDonald’s is also creating a “Loki” pop-up restaurant with retro memorabilia.
McDonald’s has seen wild success with its “Famous Order” platform, a series of meals inspired by the go-to orders of celebrities such as Travis Scott, Cardi B, and Saweetie. The company’s latest meal will remind diners that McDonald’s is a bit of a celebrity itself.
On Wednesday, the chain announced its next Famous Order, “As Featured In Meal.” The combo meal, debuting August 14 worldwide, includes menu items mentioned in iconic films and television programs such as “Seinfeld,” “Space Jam,” and “Reality Bites.”
The announcement comes two days after McDonald’s took to X, the social platform formerly known as Twitter, to tease a big August 14 promotion. In a video, McDonald’s showed various films and TV shows where McDonald’s was mentioned, including the latest trailer for “Loki” Season 2. The Marvel series debuts in October on Disney +.
McDonald’s “As Featured In Meal” will include a choice of 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, or a Big Mac Sandwich along with medium fries, a medium soft drink, and Loki Sweet ‘N Sour Sauce. News broke earlier this week on TikTok of the rebranded sauce, a nod to the Marvel series “Loki” starring Tom Hiddleston as the god of mischief.
In the Season 2 trailer, the character Sylvie is dressed in a vintage McDonald’s uniform and appears to be working at an 80s version of the fast-food restaurant. Time travel frequently occurs in the show.
“The As Featured In Meal is our biggest Famous Order yet, celebrating the most memorable McDonald’s references across the world of entertainment,” said Morgan Flatley, global chief marketing officer at McDonald’s.
The fast-food burger giant is embracing the Loki tie-in in two other ways.
The ‘As Featured In Meal’ will include an augmented reality experience for fans via Snapchat with exclusive content, McDonald’s said.
The chain is also turning a McDonald’s in Brooklyn, New York, into a 1982-themed restaurant, the setting featured in Loki Season 2. Starting August 30, the three-day pop-up store will feature McDonald’s memorabilia from that era.
The latest promotion comes as McDonald’s has turned to nostalgia to win over fans. The company saw sales soar in its latest quarter after it brought back Grimace for his 52nd birthday with a purple shake that went viral.
McDonald’s also plans to create a spinoff restaurant called CosMc’s. The restaurant is named after an 80s McDonaldland character named CosMc.
