Whispers about Snap’s invite-only creator program have swept the industry in recent months. Creators want to know how to be accepted into the program and gain access to Snap’s lucrative payouts.
Creators and industry professionals came together on October 7 in Los Angeles to network and share secrets to online success at the annual creator economy conference, Nas Summit.
The conference was founded by Facebook and YouTube star Nuseir Yassin, who also serves as the CEO of Nas Company. Speakers at the event ranged from YouTube creators like Samir Chaudry and Jordan Matter to industry experts like Brooke Berry, head of creator development at Snap, and Eric Wei, cofounder of Karat Financial.
Berry spoke about Snapchat’s invite-only Snap Stars monetization program, sharing tips on getting accepted and details about how the program works. The Snap Stars program pays creators based on an ad-sharing model. Creators can earn money from the ads between their stories or from rewards earned by posting vertical videos to Snap’s Spotlight feature.
One creator, who spoke on the condition of anonymity but whose identity is known to Insider, said in March that he believed Snap picked people for its Snap Stars beta program who were well-known in the influencer community and had millions of followers — or a direct relationship with someone on Snap’s team.
Stars like David Dobrik and Hannah Stocking have said they have earned thousands from the program, Fortune reported.
In Berry’s presentation, earnings from the program were mentioned as one of the driving forces behind creators applying, in addition to the ability to gain a new audience. And Berry highlighted important steps creators should take once accepted to maintain their engagement and growth on Snap.
