Warning: Spoilers ahead for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Season 1.
Who killed Andie Bell? Seventeen-year-old amateur sleuth Pippa Fitz-Amobi (Emma Myers) is determined to find out in Netflix’s new mystery series. With lots of twists, turns, and unexpected surprises, Pip ultimately uncovers the truth. Read on to dive into the shocking ending of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is based on Holly Jackson’s bestselling mystery trilogy. The series takes place five years after the alleged murder of Andie Bell. The police closed the case after her boyfriend, Sal Singh, committed suicide after her suspected death. But Pip doesn’t believe someone like Sal could kill anyone, and she wants to prove his innocence for a school project.
As Pip starts her investigation, she quickly learns that things aren’t as they seem. First, she finds out that Sal did have an alibi, but he asked his friends to lie to the police that night. There are also “a million discrepancies” from Sal’s friends’ accounts of that evening.
She teams up with Sal’s brother, Ravi, to solve the case and help clear Sal’s name. Ravi proves to be a major help when he gives Pip his brother’s phone, which includes a confession sent three days after Andie was killed. Pip and Ravi quickly notice that the punctuation on the confession text is too perfect, meaning that someone was trying to frame him.
Pip also learns from Andie’s friend Nat that she was hooking up with someone other than Sal before her death, an unknown “Secret Older Guy” they call him. While Nat thinks it’s Max Hastings, Max says they were not sleeping together. In fact, he reveals that Andie was selling drugs from a drug dealer.
After finding said drug dealer at a calamity party and breaking into Andie’s childhood bedroom to find a stuffed bunny filled with drugs, it’s clear that Andie was leading a dangerous life. Another clue takes them to Ivy House Hotel, where Andie was seen a few days before she went missing. Pip is taken aback when she sees her stepfather Victor’s name in the guest book five years ago when he was supposed to be out of town in Nigeria.
Pip’s first major breakthrough is when Cara’s sister Naomi reveals she lied to the police about what time Sal left. The truth wasn’t that Sal asked them to lie, but they were blackmailed.
On New Year’s Eve five years ago, Max and Naomi were drinking and were involved in a hit-and-run. They fled the scene, and months later, a note with instructions was delivered to Max’s house. They had to tell the police that Sal had left Max’s at 10:30 p.m. and were told to delete any photos of Sal after that time. If they didn’t, the person would reveal to the world that they left a man to die.
A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder Ending Explained
In Episode 5, Pip’s been receiving threats from Andie’s suspected killer. She comes up with the idea to lure them out by posting a video online telling the world that she has the entire story and is ready to share it. But the person threatens Pip again, telling her to stop or she won’t see “him” again. Pip realizes that her beloved dog Barney is missing, and he’s later found dead.
One person high on Pip’s suspect list is Andie’s friend Nat’s older brother, Daniel da Silva, a police officer. Pip tells him that he had to have been the one to blackmail Sal’s friends since he was the first police officer at the scene of the hit-and-run. He admits that he and Andie were romantically involved two years before she went missing. But as Pip points out, Andie was only 15 years old, which is statutory rape. Daniel said that Max discovered their relationship and blackmailed him to cover up the car wreck.
Who Is Secret Older Guy?
Pip is determined to find out the identity of Secret Older Guy, the man that Andie was sleeping with before her disappearance. At the beginning of the season, she programs a number into her phone that she believes is his. She finally receives a phone call from the number, and when she answers, she’s surprised to hear Naomi’s voice on the other end.
When Pip asks whose phone it is, Naomi tells Pip it’s her dad Elliot’s. Pip drops her phone in his vehicle while in the car with Elliot and her friends on their way back to his house. Inside his office, she discovers he was the one who slipped a threat into her sleeping bag. She tracks her phone and his vehicle to Elliot’s family old house, which Cara says her father sold years ago.
Pip suspects that Elliot is holding Andie hostage there. When Pip approaches Elliot at the residence, he admits that he tutored Andie, and their relationship eventually turned romantic. He insisted that she called things off because she loved Sal. She asked to meet him at the Ivy House Hotel days before she went missing asking for money, but he said no. A few days later, she went to his house asking for more money. She said that if he didn’t give her 5,000 pounds, she would tell the world that he took advantage of her.
Andie went wild, he said, streaming and slapping him. When he pushed her off, she fell and hit her head on the countertop, and she started bleeding everywhere. When he went to get his phone to call an ambulance, she was gone, and he never saw her again.
Who Was The Woman In Elliot’s Attic?
As she was talking to Elliot, Pip heard someone banging on the pipes upstairs. She ran upstairs and found a young girl named Isla in the attic. Elliot saw the girl alone on the street one day and brought her back to the house. The following morning, when Isla tried to compliment him, he uttered the shocking words, “What if I told you I killed a person?” to her.
Who Killed Sal Singh?
Elliot confessed to Isla that he was the one who killed Sal. He admitted to drugging Sal first before smothering him. After hearing this, the girl tried to escape, but Elliot wouldn’t let her go.
Thankfully, the police arrived at Elliot’s house, where they found Pip and Isla. Elliot was arrested, and everyone knew that Sal was innocent. He didn’t kill himself because he was guilty but because he was killed by someone that he trusted.
Who Was Trying To Blackmail Max and Naomi?
Elliot was the one blackmailing his daughter Naomi and her friend Max. Her father learned about their hit-and-run by reading her diary. Elliot then sent Naomi and Max a note instructing them to lie about how long Sal was with them the night Andie went missing. Now, viewers know that he did this so that Sal would be the prime suspect in Andie’s murder, not him.
Who Killed Andie Bell?
After Elliot’s arrest, Pip realizes that Elliot was out of town the day that Barney was killed, which means the person texting Pip threats — the person who actually killed Andie — was still out there.
Under custody, Elliot tells Pip that Andie’s father, Jason, was controlling. He also said that Jason lied about his alibi the night that Andie died because he passed by him in the woods that night in a blue van.
Becca’s friend Jesse reveals to Pip that in 2019, Becca was drugged and raped by Max Hastings at a calamity party. Becca asked Andie to come with her to report Max to the police (the same night that she went missing). But Andie said she couldn’t because she was the one who sold him the drugs he used on her.
Andie also told her sister she was leaving first thing in the morning to escape their controlling father. Enraged, Becca lashed out and pushed Andie, who fell on the floor and started choking and vomiting. “I just stood there. I watched her die. It was awful,” Becca told Pip.
How Does A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder End?
Pip comforts Becca and says that it wasn’t her fault; Andie was already injured because of a fight she had at Elliot’s house earlier. Becca offers to show Pip where Andie is. She brings Pip to a remote well in the woods. Now that she has shown Pip where her sister’s dead body is, Becca says that she has to put Pip in there, too.
Fortunately, Cara has Pip’s location thanks to the Find My Friends app. Ravi and Cara lead the police to Pip’s location before it’s too late.
At the end of the episode, Pip questions whether she wants to go to Cambridge. She does have an intense confrontation with Max, where she vows to seek justice for anyone else he has hurt.
