2023 has been a very big year for singer Jennie. While she may be best known as one of the four members of the K-pop girl group Blackpink, she has also been enjoying success on her own in various fields this year. Now, months after first reaching the Billboard charts with a solo offering, that tune is turning out to have something of a second life.
“One of the Girls” is fronted by The Weeknd and features both Jennie and actor Lily-Rose Depp, as it was written and recorded for the HBO show The Idol—which features all three artists as actors. The tune was released as one of a handful of singles from the series, and when it arrived, it hit Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart.
Now, the track is back on the ranking of the most-consumed R&B tracks in America. “One of the Girls” appears on the tally for a separate run. This frame, it settles at No. 19 on the 25-spot list. It previously topped out at No. 14.
“One of the Girls” is also gaining significantly on Spotify. The track is up to No. 29 on the streaming giant’s global ranking of the most popular songs. That’s a new high point for the cut—reached months after it was first released. On Monday, November 13, Jennie’s smash earned 2.2 million plays.
When “One of the Girls” arrived on the Hot R&B Songs chart, Jennie made history. She became the first South Korean artist to appear on the tally. She still holds that record, and might for a while. The tune also spent a week on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart, peaking at No. 11.
“One of the Girls” is becoming what might be called a sleeper hit. That means that it only reaches widespread appeal and prominence some time after its initial release and promotional period. While the track did make it to the Billboard charts right out of the gate, it could continue to climb in the coming weeks, perhaps rising higher than when it first arrived, which isn’t common these days.
